Google.com has a New Feature in its Search Settings
Jump Start News -- Google calls it SafeSearch Locking. This new feature which can be activated from the Google.com Settings page allows parents and teachers to turn on SafeSearch which can prevent children from visiting unwanted websites.
Since the very beginning, Google has been vigilant about which age group has total access to its search results and which does not. The newly launched feature is an extension of the website filtering system Google has deployed for many years. SafeSearch Locking is activated through a Google account login which requires a password. This is the same login users key in to access their Gmail accounts. When SafeSearch is in effect, Google-colored balls are displayed at the top of the search results page. They are large enough to be viewable from a distance thus assuring both parents and teachers that SafeSearch is on. Although this enhancement may not have an immediate relevance for adult surfers, it clearly indicates that Google is working hard to maintain its leadership position in the world of the web and search considering the fact that Bing and Ask have been making swift progress and eroding Google’s market share.
