54% of US Companies have Blocked Access to Social Media Websites
Jump Start News – According to a research study conducted by a leading US-based IT human resources recruitment firm, 54% of US companies have currently blocked access to the major social media websites on their premises.
Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Linked In along with several other social media websites cannot be accessed on the job at more than half of the US companies surveyed, according to research findings announced recently by Robert Half Technologies, a leading US-based executive search firm which serves the IT sector. These measures have been implemented owing to the fact that most of the social media interaction recorded at these companies through network servers designed to monitor company traffic and usage were unrelated to the employee’s job functions. Estimates vary but those employees who are on social media websites on company time, do so for at least ten hours a week. The study also found that 19% of companies allow social networking use only for business purposes, while 16% allow limited personal use. Therefore, it makes perfect sense for newly hired employees to check their company’s administrative handbook for guidelines pertaining to the use of the Internet and access to social media websites on the job.
